When Erykah Badu first sprang onto the music scene, her elaborate head wraps breathed life back into this traditional African style.

Although not new to the African culture, head wraps are now being worn not only in formal settings, but in day-to-day casual wear.

Head wraps can be achieved in several different ways. You will need approximately 2 yards of cloth; the more fabric you use, the bigger, and more elegant the wrap.

Begin by wrapping, twisting and tucking the fabric to experiment with different styles.

Different colors and pieces of cloth can be used to augment or accentuate wrap styles even further.

Practice as often as you can because tying the perfect wrap takes time and patience for the beginner.

One of the simplest wraps involves placing the fabric over the hair and wrapping the excess to form a bun/chignon at the nape of the neck.
