excerpt from tubby's dreadlocks journal from february 2002

Why did you decide to go natural/grow locks?

Not sure. I guess I just stumbled upon the whole natural thing. While I was in school I had braids for the longest time. When I finally got sick of them and saw how long my newgrowth was, the decision was kinda made for me.

For a while I sported a 'fro, then twists then...well, I tried everything. I don't know when I got fed up with my hair. I guess I realized it wasn't going to grow any longer so the only logical step was to lock.

How did you go natural (i.e. cold turkey, growing it out...)? Why did you choose this method?
I chose to grow it out with braids. Like I said, it wasn't a conscious decision cause I'd just been getting them for so long.
