Readers with Dreadlocks, braids, cornrows, weaves or other styles in which hair is compacted or one is unable to comb should avoid using these recipes. Proper rinsing is required when using food stuffs and unfortunately, you may not be able to remove certain items from intertwined hair.
AvoCoco Hair Conditioner
Avocados have high fatty content and proteins which are beneficial to hair.
Ingredients:
1 Avocado (mashed)
1/2-1 cup Coconut milk
Directions:
Combine the two ingredients in a bowl until smooth but not runny.
Comb the paste through your hair and massage into your scalp.
Cover hair with a plastic cap.
Allow AvoCoco to process (without heat) for let 10 -15 minutes.
Rinse thoroughly.
Honey Mayo Protein Hair Deep Conditioner for Dry Hair
(subtitute store bought mayonnaise, not miracle whip)
Eggs contain natural proteins and add luster to hair. Honey is a natural humectant. Oils are hydrating and help seal in moisture. Combine the three and you have a wonderful honey mayo or better yet, a great deep conditioner.
Ingredients:
1 egg yolk
1 teasppoon of honey
1/4 cup of distilled water
Add the following based on your hair's condition
Dry hair - 2 tablespoons of olive oil
Oily hair - 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
Normal hair - 2 tablespoons of jojoba or sesame oil
Directions: (This is actually the basic process of making mayonnaise. This recipe is not edible).
Beat the egg yolk. While beating the egg, slowly drizzle the oil over the egg being sure to beat the mixture vigorously.
Mix in the water.
Spread the prepared mixture into freshly shampooed hair.
Massage into scalp and throughout hair.
Cover with a plastic cap and allow the mixture to remain on the hair for 15-20 minutes. You want the conditioner to remain wet, if it feels as if it's drying out, start rinsing. The quicker this conditioner dries out, the longer it will take to rinse.
Rinse Thoroughly
Note: Mayo doesn't have the most pleasant odor. You may feel compelled to wash your hair again after attempting this treatment. Instead of shampooing, after rinsing out the mayo, apply your favorite store bought conditioner to your hair and cover with a new plastic cap. Ideally, you would process the conditioner with heat using a bonnet or hooded dryer for 5 minutes. Remove the cap and rinse thoroughly.
