After reading this article about how blacks in the UK feel toward politics I guess I can fairly say that yes we are more patriotic lol, but don’t get me wrong, a lot of black americans don’t vote AT ALL and yet they wanna complain all the time about how politicians don’t pay attention to them. Well of course they don’t if your not a voter! lol even though we have an ugly history in America i believe a lot of middle to upper class blacks want to look at the future. We’re sick of the negitivity of the past although we will never forget it. We have a black president for christ’s sake! How could we not feel patriotic at least a little bit

Yes we are. I love, love, love my country and I feel extremely blessed to have been born here. But do understand that our patriotism, despite our dark history here, comes from the fact that we have been in America since its inception. And we played a major role in buidling America as well.
I do have to say that I do find the lack of patriotism amongst black Britons deeply troubling. If you are going to immigrate to a country, and it has given you a relatively good standard of living, then you ought to be thankful and proud of your new country. I know that many of us in America are really tired of ungrateful demanding immigrants who have become more of a burden then an asset. If you do not like the UK and you are not proud of it, then you should go back home. I don’t mean to sound harsh, but that is the way that I feel. No country can thrive or even survive if the people who reside there neither believe in it nor willing to die for it.

I love this site. I have, for some reason, a kindred spirit with blacks in the UK and I dont know why. To answer your question, blacks are patriotic in the US because we took the first bullet for this country. The armed forces were segregated until the Tuskegee Airmen came along and had one of the strongest fighting records in WWII. The military, while concealing its racist past, was a place where equality could be achieved. I come from a family of military veterans and I also served. Another thing that is unknown, but American culture (anything uniquely American) has been invented by black Americans. (Jazz, Hip Hop, The Blues, etc). We are proud of that. I wish more music like Soul II Soul and Caron Wheeler would come out of the UK because our struggles are alike.
