I know a heck of a lot, but I would have to say that I am definitely in the minority. Sadly, Americans are so wrapped up in city, state and countrywide politics that they scarcely have time to pay attention to what is going on in the world. Though I will say this, many African-Americans cared very deeply about the plight of South Africans in the 80’s.

You are correct about other Africans, but is for a couple of reasons. First, we saw nothing but bad images from the media about Africa and it gave us a false sense of superiority. Sadly, most Americans dont take the time to learn about the motherland. Second, there is a sense of guilt and fear. Most Africans think of Americans as being wealthy (when most are not). This puts us in a bad spot. On the one hand, we are more prosperous than our brothers across the ocean, on the other hand, there is a sense of fear and a need to downplay ones success. It is a complicated subject.
