I don’t agree with this statement nor do I understand where that generalisation comes from. At best I can assume that this assumption comes from blacks in movies, music, and TV in the US, in which case you have to understand these people know they are geting paid to look their best and they have to use products to keep a clear complexion. Thats true for all races in those industries not just blacks. Many of the general population does deal with dark spots, oily skin, or short hair (due to the constant breakage caused by relaxers)
In fact, its well-known that the current first lady, Michelle Obama, does not relax her hair and that is why it is so long. Instead her hair is blow dried with a combination of products by Phyto, a brand thats not targeted towards any specific culture and the cost of their products would make them out of reach to the economically conscientious. Phyto is French brand that is available worlwide.

I would have to agree. My well traveled friends, who have been to England, say that English people aren’t as concerned about grooming as Americans are. And black folks in America are not exception. We are obsessed with hair in African-American culture; and we go to great lengths to make sure that our hair looks great. Heck, we invented the hot comb and hair relaxer (I think
).
